The Fläpps shoe rack by AMBIVALENZ rests on a simple idea: three fold-down flaps that unfold against the wall to accommodate pairs, then close again to restore a flat surface. Closed, the whole reads as a discreet square panel. Open, it frees up three levels of storage without encroaching on the circulation of the hallway.
The construction combines birch plywood covered with coloured HPL and stainless steel hinges. The HPL protects the surfaces from repeated contact with soles and cleans with a wipe of a sponge. The shallow depth of the module allows it to be installed in a narrow corridor, a passageway or a flat's cloakroom, where a piece of furniture placed on the floor would be impractical.
The white finish fades on a light partition and lets the geometry of the flaps create the design. Several modules can be juxtaposed or stacked to compose a storage wall to the measure of the room, in dialogue with the other elements of the Fläpps family.
