Kitchen Stools

Nearly 1,000 stools and bar chairs for the kitchen, in counter height or bar height, in wood or metal, by Normann Copenhagen, HAY, Muuto, 366 Concept or Tolix.

Around an island or a bar, a kitchen stool is used every day: breakfast, homework, drinks. Its seat height must match the height of the counter exactly.

Counter height or bar height?

For a worktop or island at around 90 cm, choose a seat of 60 to 65 cm. For a bar at 105 or 110 cm, you need a seat of around 75 cm. In every case, keep 25 to 30 cm between the seat and the underside of the counter for legroom.

With or without a backrest, wood or metal

A backless stool slides fully under the counter and keeps the way clear. A bar chair, with a backrest and sometimes armrests, is more comfortable for a full meal. Wood, oak or beech, and lacquered metal dominate, with black the most widespread finish. Allow 60 cm of width per person.

Frequently asked questions

What height of stool for a kitchen island?

A standard island is around 90 cm high: it needs a stool with a seat between 60 and 65 cm. Measure the height under the counter and subtract 25 to 30 cm to get the ideal seat height.

How many stools around an island?

Allow 60 cm of width per stool. An island of 120 cm takes two stools, 180 cm takes three, 240 cm four.

Stool with or without a backrest?

Without a backrest, the stool tucks under the counter and suits quick meals. With a backrest, you can stay seated longer without tiring: it is the right choice if the island serves as the main table.
