The Alima system, designed by Note Design Studio for &Tradition, is based on a chromed steel structure that supports veneered lacquered oak shelves, edged with solid lacquered oak. This low configuration fits beneath a window, along a living room wall or behind a sofa, where a full-height bookcase would be too much.
The design rests on a simple contrast: the fineness of the metal against the quiet mass of the wood. The uprights remain discreet, the shelves appear to float, and the whole maintains a visual lightness rare for a storage piece. The solid oak edges give the shelves a clear thickness that holds the eye.
At this width and depth, Alima accommodates books, objects and vinyl records without overwhelming the room. Its height also makes it an auxiliary surface, where one can place a lamp, a plant or a tray. The piece is intended for indoor use.
