Collins side table - Normann Copenhagen

Graham Collins drew on his most recent work to create a sculptural table for the Normann x Brask Art Collection. With its textural composition of wood, glass and tinted automotive window film, the side table uses the same materials as his "tinted monochromes" series, reconfigured into a functional piece of furniture. "In addition to creating artworks, I also make furniture for myself, so designing a table felt entirely natural to me. I'm usually obsessed with the practice when making my works, so it was an interesting exercise to reflect on the design process. Art and design influence one another a great deal; to me, they seem to have slightly different aims, although they aren't mutually exclusive. Both fields generate technical and critical dialogues that are useful to the other." Graham Collins' table features an irregular angular frame in solid oak, while the many legs give the impression of a creature about to scuttle away. Sheets of tinted film are layered between a doubly laminated glass table top, creating random creases and air bubbles that add a free-spirited sense of texture to the visually sharp composition. The vinyl is positioned in different arrangements between the glass panes, making every piece unique.
