Serax and Vincent Van Duysen have joined forces to create a sofa collection that embodies the DNA of both institutions: crisp and striking. "I thought it would be a lovely idea if we could translate a bespoke product that I very often make for my projects into an edition piece. The Rudolph collection pays tribute to Rudolf Michael Schindler, a leading figure of American mid-century modernism. "I have a great deal of admiration for him. Mid-century style is hugely inspiring for my work; think of the typical built-in benches that furnish modern interiors. But the most significant inspiration for this collection was the sofa I have in my house in Portugal, because of its proportions, its lines and the serenity you feel – looking at it; sitting on it. "

The Rudolph coffee table became the Belgian designer's next vision, combining the triumphant solidity of an almost pure marble top with the utter simplicity of a black lacquered wooden base. Joining these two raw slabs without any external structure and without weighting the wood meant Van Duysen had to select robust species capable of taking their place in your interior for years to come. The clear interlocking of the two equivalent levels, from which no reinforcement protrudes, results in a duo that is as pared-back as it is resounding. Or how two heavy blocks, cut to proportion, prove capable of bringing a certain finesse to your interior.
