Vincent Van Duysen
Nothing is more beautiful than daylight. The moment when darkness falls and we have to rely on artificial lighting can be viewed in different ways.
Vincent Van Duysen was born in Lokeren, Belgium, in 1962. After graduating from the Sint-Lucas School of Architecture in Ghent, he worked with Aldo Cibic in Milan, and then with Jean De Meulder in Antwerp, Belgium. In 1989, Vincent Van Duysen Architects was founded. Today, the practice has a team of over 30 staff whose work ranges from product design for numerous international brands to large-scale commercial and architectural projects, with a particular focus on high-end residential properties in Belgium, across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the United States.
From the outset, a precise interplay between architecture, interior design and product design has been the driving force behind the conception of projects inspired by subtle transitions between these disciplines and combined with a spatial design approach, constantly seeking the essence.
The use of pure, tactile materials results in a clean, timeless design. Respecting context and tradition, this approach places the user’s well-being at the centre through the senses and the physical experience of space, textures and light. Functionality, sustainability and comfort are the key components of the work – an architectural language that does not shy away from conveying aesthetic appeal, but which tends to disregard fashion and trends.
