The Eclisse lamp was created by Vico Magistretti for Artemide. Vintage and à la times futuristic, the Eclisse lamp continues to seduce new generations, sensitive to the practical and mythical aesthetics of the design Italian sixties.
Created in 1965, Eclisse is one of Vico Magistretti's plus great successes: an avant-garde balance between form and function, design and utility. A miracle recipe which will make the beautiful days of the post-war Italian industrial design. We can recognize in this astonishing little lamp in painted metal the attraction of the Italian designer grand for strong geometric volumes. The basis of the concept lies in its functionality of adjusting the intensity of the light thanks to its rotating inner diffuser that "eclipses" the light source. Eclisse compose consists of a fixed spherical structure inside which a half-sphere rotates, allowing the light to be directed and its intensity to be adjusted. Closed at its maximum, Eclisse gives a real impression… of eclipse! Thus, thanks to its fixed outer shell and its mobile inner shell, the lamp can provide direct or diffused light.
The Eclisse lamp won the prestigious Compasso d'Oro award in 1967, becoming the ambassador of the Italian design around the world. Eclisse is part of the collection permanent collection of plus important design museums, including the MoMa in New York and the Triennale Design Museum of Milan.
