The Shoemaker stool from Form & Refine is a true classique made in Denmark since 1936, where it is encore, to this day, produced by our local carpentry. The seat is fashioned from a large piece of solid wood and, due to the variations in wood grain, each Shoemaker Chair is completely unique. Ensemble, the turned legs and stabilizing T-connection create a harmonious and aesthetically pleasing piece of furniture with strong references to the Nordic design.
The construction may seem rather simple, but it is technically challenging to master. The solid piece of wood has to be carved with great precision to ensure optimal comfort.
À la end of the process, each model is worked à la by hand before undergoing a three-step process of surface treatment by staining or oiling.

Designer: The design of the Shoemaker chair dates back to 1936 in Odense, Denmark. In the 1970s, design was affiliated with and assimilated by the Werner family, who came from a long generation of fine woodturners, a profession that is almost non-existent today. Over the course of three generations, the family has renewed and refined the forms of the chair and reestablished the design and production to make it what it is today: a true classique in design.
They have tirelessly optimized the chair from the earliest stages, adjusting certain aspects year after year - both in the production flow and in the finished product. Among other things, T-shaped legs have been added for plus stability and the seat has been reshaped and rounded so that if the chair falls, the rounded profile protects the top line from breaking.
On the island of Funen, the Werner family has been working from the woodturning carpentry Gislev Drejerforretning, founded in 1913. Today, the third generation of the Werner family has taken over the carpentry business. The designer and woodturner have been the same for years.

This item is made in Europe, which generally shortens transport distances and supports more local production chains.
