Canadian Philippe Malouin lives and works in London, where he founded his studio in 2009 after working for the English designer Tom Dixon. His varied portfolio includes tables, rugs, chairs, lighting, art objects and installations. In his practice, Philippe Malouin celebrates imperfections and striking contrasts, creating avant-garde objects that have won him numerous awards, including W Hotels' "Designer of the Future" award and Wallpaper's "Best Use of Material" award.
Philippe Malouin's Bookmatch table reflects the natural beauté of freshly sawn wood. It celebrates craftsmanship, yet is designed for modern manufacturing and contemporary mode living. Composed of two perfectly mirrored oak veneer panels, with edges designed to give a 'waney' (untrimmed) effect, and a construction that locks together with two wooden corners, the Bookmatch table is a tribute to traditional woodworking. Visually heavy, but in reality light, raw and handcrafted, but in reality highly sophisticated, the Bookmatch table is a sophisticated piece of furniture for lovers of design.
