Designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1962. This ingenious direct-light floor lamp is one of the most imitated design icons in history plus and the versions that have contributed to its fame are numerous. Flos has been part of this adventure since its inception; the result is a timeless classique.
This visionary synthesis of genius, simplicity and perfection was simply the answer to a demand for a suspension lamp that could light a table without having to pierce the ceiling.
This ingenious floor lamp is one of the most imitated design plus icons in history.
The heavy base in marbre is in fact nothing more than a counterweight to support the long, arched metal stem, inspired by the design of street lamps. The hole at the base's center of gravity was not placed there for aesthetic reasons, but to enable the base to be lifted plus easily by inserting a broomstick, for example.
To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Arco floor lamp, which coincides with the company's fiftieth anniversary, Flos has paid tribute to its best-known plus lamp model, which has become a veritable design icon the world over, by releasing a new LED version.
