Serax

Belgian design at the meeting point of creativity and craftsmanship

Founded in Belgium in 1986, Serax is a design house renowned for its collaborations with leading designers, architects, artists and chefs. From tableware to furniture, lighting and decorative objects, every collection expresses a contemporary vision of living, where aesthetics, functionality and craftsmanship come together. Driven by a creativity without borders, Serax imagines singular pieces designed to enrich daily life and stand the test of time.

Since its inception, Serax has cultivated a design philosophy rooted in dialogue, curiosity and craftsmanship of the highest standard. Founded by brothers Serge and Axel Van Den Bossche, the Belgian brand has established itself as an international benchmark by bringing together designers from diverse backgrounds around a shared ambition: to create objects that are beautiful, functional and meaningful.

Over the years, Serax has forged iconic collaborations with leading figures in the worlds of design and gastronomy, including Ann Demeulemeester, Vincent Van Duysen, Kelly Wearstler, Marie Michielssen, Piet Boon, Ottolenghi and Sergio Herman. Each collection retains its creator’s unique identity whilst remaining true to the brand’s cohesive and discerning aesthetic.

Craftsmanship plays a central role in Serax’s approach. Ceramics, glass, wood, metal and stone are worked by specialist craftspeople who preserve traditional skills whilst exploring new manufacturing techniques. This attention to materials and finishes gives each piece a unique character.

Sculptural tableware, striking lighting, contemporary furniture and decorative accessories: the Serax collections add a touch of elegance and authenticity to everyday moments. Designed for both the home and professional projects, they celebrate the art of hospitality, the joy of sharing and the beauty of objects that lend character to living spaces.

Through its sensitive approach to contemporary design, Serax continues to create collections in which creativity, quality and emotion are evident in every detail.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Serax and what is the brand's story?

Serax is a Belgian brand founded in 1986 in Antwerp by brothers Serge and Axel Van den Bossche. Originally specialising in tableware and table accessories, it has established itself as one of the leading names in high-end Belgian design, with a catalogue that has gradually expanded to include tableware, outdoor furniture, lighting and decorative pieces. The Serax spirit can be summed up in a few words: editorial design, collaborations with Michelin-starred chefs and star designers, and Belgian quality. The brand works with renowned designers and personalities: Anita Le Grelle, Marie Michielssen, Vincent Van Duysen, Paola Navone, Sergio Herman (the Belgian chef with 3 Michelin stars) and Piet Boon. Each collaboration results in a dedicated collection (Pure tableware by Anita Le Grelle, Surface tableware by Sergio Herman). Production takes place in Portugal (ceramics), Italy and Poland. Serax is now distributed in more than 70 countries and can be found in numerous Michelin-starred restaurants (its chef's tableware is a benchmark). The Cool Republic distributes Serax in France with an extensive catalogue.

What are Serax's flagship collections?

Several Serax collections have become iconic. The Pure tableware collection by Anita Le Grelle is arguably the best known: fine porcelain in several finishes (Off-White, Black, Smokey Blue, Stone) with an archetypal design that suits any table. The Surface tableware by Sergio Herman offers plates with a rawer, more organic design, and is used in many Michelin-starred restaurants across Europe. The Inku collection by Sergio Herman and Pascale Naessens, in matt ceramic, is another go-to for design-led tables. On the lighting side, Serax has been producing lamps and pendants in collaboration with Belgian designers for the past 10 years: Glow (Marie Michielssen), Wabi-Sabi and Earth (Marc Verbruggen). The outdoor furniture (August collection by Vincent Van Duysen) is very much in demand for high-end terraces. The ceramic and blown-glass vases are also bestsellers. Serax's strength lies in a demanding catalogue that combines accessibility (affordable, high-quality tableware) with statement design pieces (designer furniture, chef collaborations).

How much does Serax cost?

Serax spans several price ranges depending on the category. Tableware is very accessible: £8-25 for a single piece (mug, Pure dinner plate), £60-150 for sets of 4 or 6. The premium collections (Surface by Sergio Herman, Inku) are slightly more expensive: £15-40 per piece. Vases and candleholders range from £25 to £250 depending on size and designer. For lighting, expect £200-450 for a table lamp, £350-900 for a pendant and £600-1,500 for a floor lamp. Outdoor furniture (August and Catherine collections) reaches £1,500-5,000 per piece (outdoor sofas, high-end chairs). To get started with Serax, the Pure tableware is the perfect investment: begin with a set of 4-6 plates (dinner and dessert) in the Off-White or Smokey Blue finish, budgeting £120-180. Then gradually add mugs, bowls and serving dishes. This tableware easily lasts 20 years in everyday use and never goes out of style. Make the most of the twice-yearly sales for the more expensive pieces (lighting, outdoor furniture).
