Modular Metal Shelving Units

Metal modular shelving answers a very specific brief: bringing rigorous structure to an interior without sacrificing freedom of composition. This section brings together 113 pieces chosen for their build quality, aesthetic coherence and ability to evolve with the needs of each space. Metal comes into its own here as a material of choice, combining mechanical strength, slender sections and an affinity with the contemporary lines of high-end designer furniture.

In our Modular shelving section, metal comes in a range of finishes, from matt lacquer to raw steel treatments, to suit very different settings. The steel String Furniture modular shelving units perfectly illustrate this approach: designed in 1949 by Nisse Strinning, the String system is built around metal ladder-style side panels onto which shelves, cabinets and magazine racks simply hook, with no screws or special tools required. This open load-bearing principle, since taken up by many manufacturers, remains a benchmark in the world of modular storage. Dimensions adapt to ceiling height and available width alike, while combining wall-mounted modular shelving with floor-standing compositions makes it possible to cover large surfaces with real visual consistency. The metallic colours – black, white, grey, natural steel – offer an understated palette that sits easily alongside other materials such as wood, glass or marble.

Metal modular shelving works just as well in a living room as in a study, a bedroom or a shared workspace. Its airy structure keeps visual bulk to a minimum, making it particularly well suited to medium-sized rooms. It pairs naturally with closed storage units, alternating display areas with more discreet stowaway space. For a softer composition, the beige String Furniture modular shelving units bring a warmer note while retaining the same rigorous modular logic.
