Black Side Tables

Black side tables hold a singular place in the world of design furniture: their colour draws the eye without ever holding it, creating a understated yet assertive presence in any space. The Cool Republic brings together 152 pieces here, chosen for their build quality and the consistency of their lines, from strict geometric forms to freer, more organic silhouettes. From lacquered metal to stained wood, by way of marble side tables with their contrasting veining, black works across a wide range of materials without ever losing its visual clarity.

The collection covers a broad spectrum of types, from the small round side table placed at the end of a sofa to the architectural structure that converses with a long, generous settee. Some pieces play on the transparency of the top or the lightness of a slender wire base, while others embrace a solid, sculpted mass. Compact formats sit alongside more generous dimensions, designed to serve both as a practical surface and as a compositional element within a furniture arrangement. For those keen to explore other tones, the department also offers green side tables as well as blue side tables, which pair beautifully with black versions in the same room for a deliberate, well-judged interplay of colour.

The black side table works equally well in the living room, the bedroom or the study. In a living room, it structures the space around a pale sofa or a velvet armchair, playing on the contrast of materials. In a bedroom, it makes a fine alternative to the classic bedside table when its dimensions are matched to the height of the bed. For a more elaborate arrangement, pairing two different formats creates an appealing play of volumes. Lovers of natural materials will find an obvious affinity with stone side tables, whose darker shades sit naturally alongside black.
