Rocking chair / Brass / Pink - valerie_objects

Valerie_objects offers a carefully curated selection from today's most talented designers. Collaborating with this new label, Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen continue their explorations of form and the creations that flow from them. Both trained as artists, one a sculptor, the other a photographer, their duo came into being with proposals that sit at the boundary of their respective fields and of their shared passion for design. Open-mindedness and endless possibilities: with Muller Van Severen, the armchair extends into a light, the chaise longue sits alongside the armchair in a unique tandem, the furniture becomes a living space, a space to be lived in when it combines storage with both a table and an armchair. Their work goes beyond the object: what they put in place is a way of living, a way of occupying space, of taking possession of it. Their furniture invites us to inhabit our homes differently, more aware of what surrounds us. Rocking in a rocking chair is always a moment of calm and even of reflection. You can lose yourself in it, both within yourself and in the world. But the rocking chair is also a benchmark piece in the world of design. The greatest designers and the greatest architects have all taken on this challenge. The Cool Republic presents Muller Van Severen's sublime interpretation. Utterly restrained, it appears as a pared-back outline with a subtle line, seen both in the slenderness of its frame and in the curve given to the textile of its seat. With its intense personality, this piece goes beyond its function. Choosing it is something of a manifesto: one of support for and attachment to design of great rigour and outstanding quality.
