Koen Van Guijze has been working with lighting for many years. He defines his style as a synthesis of brutalism and sophistication.
Among the series of lighting pieces Koen Van Guijze has designed for Serax, this desk lamp is the one that most explicitly evokes the imagery of roads and road signage. It bears a strong resemblance to the Nr. 09 wall light, another of the designer's creations.
Its tubular shape, rusted appearance and bevelled ends give the impression of a simple cylinder, a section of street lamp or an exhaust pipe battered by the elements… And yet this creation seems to carry a deeper message.
Indeed, some might see in this desire to bring light inside a car indicator the wish to reconcile nature and technology, ecology and industry.
