Moebe

Moebe is a Danish brand founded in 2014 in Copenhagen by designers Anders Thams, Nicholas Oldroyd and Martin de Neergaard Christensen. Younger than most Scandinavian brands, it quickly made a name for itself with its ultra-pared-back design and modular approach. The Moebe spirit can be summed up in a few words: Danish-Japanese minimalism, modularity, absolute simplicity. Every Moebe piece shares a common aesthetic: a matt black metal or light oak structure, pure shapes (squares, rectangles, circles) and impeccable finishes. The brand specialises in particular in picture frames (the Moebe Frames collection), modular wall shelving (Shelving System), storage (Pedestals, Boxes) and pared-back furniture. All production takes place in Denmark at the Copenhagen factory using sustainable materials (FSC oak, recycled metal). Moebe is now distributed in more than 30 countries and ranks among the favourite brands of Japanese minimalism enthusiasts.

Moebe picture frames are arguably the brand's most iconic signature. An ingenious system: two sheets of perspex that sandwich the photo, held in place by 4 oak or metal pegs. No engraving, no complex mechanism. The system lets you change the photo in 30 seconds and the frame is barely visible. Available in several sizes (A6 to A2) and several finishes (natural oak, black oak, black metal, white metal). The wall-mounted Shelving System offers modular shelves in black or white metal with oak boards, to be composed according to your needs. Pedestals storage (wooden and metal boxes/stools) is in high demand for bedrooms and hallways. Round chairs, bedside tables and small furniture round off the catalogue. Moebe's strength: a coherent system in which all the products complement one another, and a genuine discretion that allows you to add Moebe to any interior without visual overload.

Moebe frames cost 30-150 euros depending on the size and finish. That's more expensive than IKEA or high-street retailers (where equivalent frames go for around 5-30 euros), but the value for money becomes obvious in use. The magnetic fixing system, with no clips or screws, is unique and long-lasting (no mechanical parts to wear out). The oak or metal pegs never break. The perspex used is a premium acrylic that doesn't yellow over time. The 100% Danish manufacturing takes place under optimal social and environmental conditions. For comparison, equivalent design frames (Vitra, Hay, Muuto) go for around 60-200 euros for solutions that are often less ingenious. In terms of investment: a Moebe frame bought in 2016 still works like new 9 years later, and you can change the photo indefinitely. To get started with Moebe, begin with 3-5 Moebe frames in different sizes to arrange as a gallery wall. Budget 200-400 euros for 5 well-finished frames. It's an investment you notice immediately and that lasts for decades.
