Entryway Rugs

Around a hundred entryway and hallway rugs: narrow sizes, small rugs and doormats, in wool or natural fibres, by Ferm Living, Layered, Lorena Canals or HAY.

The entryway gives the first impression of the home and takes all the footfall. A rug there protects the floor, traps dust and warms up a space that is often narrow.

Hallway runners: what dimensions?

In a hallway, choose a long, narrow rug, 70 to 80 cm wide, leaving 10 to 15 cm of floor visible on each side. Its length should stop short of the doors so they can open freely. In a squarer entryway, a small rug up to 90x150 cm is enough. In front of the door, the doormat remains the first filter.

Materials that stand up to footfall

Flat-woven wool and natural fibres such as jute cope well with comings and goings and show little wear. Brown and beige tones and patterns hide marks better than a plain pale rug. Lay a non-slip rug underlay, especially on wooden floors or tiles.

Frequently asked questions

What width of rug in a hallway?

Leave 10 to 15 cm of floor showing on each side. For a hallway 100 cm wide, a rug of 70 to 80 cm is therefore suitable.

Which rug for a busy entryway?

A flat-woven rug, in wool or jute, in a mid tone or patterned. It is easy to vacuum, does not hold footprints and can be straightened in one movement. Avoid a long pile.

Do you need a rug underlay in a hallway?

Yes. A long, light rug slips easily on a smooth floor. A non-slip underlay holds it in place, prevents creases and extends its life.
