The Semi Pendant is a unique pendant light, based on two quarter-circles assembled back to back. Its arch-shaped enamelled metal shade creates a diffuse, conical light, ideal above a dining table or a kitchen worktop. Thanks to the lightness of its form, its unique timeless design and its range of colours and sizes, the Semi Pendant lamp is extremely versatile and is perfectly suited to both private and public spaces.
The Semi pendant light was designed in 1968, the fruit of the creative partnership between Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup. Reacting against the soft organic shapes of the so-called "cosy" era that dominated Denmark at the time, Bonderup and Thorup set out to create a lamp with crisp, clean lines and geometric forms. Their project was submitted to a competition held by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture, and won first prize. In the 1980s, the pendant light enjoyed great success and became, at the time, the best-selling Danish design. It gained worldwide recognition and iconic status.
