Designer
Sabine Marcelis
The experience becomes the function, with a refined and unique aesthetic.
Her creations may be regarded as simple static works, but they are in fact genuine sensory experiences. Sabine Marcelis is a Dutch designer who runs her own practice from the port of Rotterdam. After graduating from the Eindhoven Design Academy in 2011, Marcelis began working as a freelance designer in the fields of product, installation and spatial design, with a focus on materiality. Her work is characterised by pure forms that highlight the properties of materials.
Marcelis applies a strong aesthetic vision to her collaborations with industry specialists. This approach allows her to influence the manufacturing process, using research and experimentation with materials to achieve new and surprising visual effects for projects exhibited in museums or commissioned by commercial clients and fashion houses.
Sabine recently won the prestigious Wallpaper Awards ‘Designer of the Year 2020’, the Design Prize 2019 in the ‘Newcomer of the Year’ category, the Elle Deco International Design Award 2019 for ‘Young Designer of the Year’ and the ‘GQ Men of the Year 2019’ International Artist of the Year award.
