Pauline Deltour
I draw inspiration from materials and their properties – my primary sources of inspiration – to explore forms that combine robustness and practicality with poetry and sensitivity
Pauline Deltour was a leading figure in French design. Born in Landerneau in 1983, she studied applied arts and design at the École Olivier de Serres (ENSAAMA) in Paris, before specialising in Industrial Design at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD) in 2006. She then worked with Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design in Munich before opening her own studio there in 2009. It was not until two years later that she returned to settle in Paris in her new studio in the 10th arrondissement.
Both precise and delicate, her designs reflect her own personality. Pauline Deltour was known for carefully selecting her materials and colours to forge her own identity through her work. The designer’s attention to detail led her to take an interest in designing every object that could make up a room, from furniture to the smallest accessory.
She says her primary source of inspiration lies in seeking a blend of poetry and robustness in her forms.
Pauline Deltour has lent her expertise to numerous collaborations. For example, she has worked on the ‘Patio’ outdoor furniture collection for the French design brand Tolix. With pieces designed to suit both private individuals and professionals in the hospitality sector, Pauline Deltour is targeting a wider range of users. As ever, she pays close attention to the details of the material and uses stainless steel to ensure her work can withstand all weathers. Her choice of slightly offbeat colours gives the collection the designer’s signature touch.
Deltour has also designed a collection of Killa mirrors for the German brand Ames. For Ames’s first range of wall mirrors, the designer has opted for a natural style featuring hand-woven fibres from Iraqi palm trees. Deltour’s signature pastel colours feature prominently in the collection.
