Paola Navone
Inspiration is, above all, a state of mind
After graduating with a degree in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Turin in 1973, Paola Navone moved to Milan to pursue her career. A few years later, she met renowned designers such as Ettore Sottsass and Andrea Branzi through the Alchimia group.
She has since become known for her talent in interior design. Her avant-garde style, characterised by stimulating colours and shapes, draws inspiration from the two decades she spent in Asia. It was there that Paola Navone discovered her passion and expertise in both artisanal and industrial techniques. Her use of high-quality materials is aimed at creating objects that stand on their own.
The artist might be described as a rebel in her own right. Her style, characterised by Italian post-modernism, seeks to produce standardised, low-budget utilitarian objects that are nonetheless unique.
She partners with numerous Italian and international interior design brands. Her collaboration with Gervasoni, for whom she is Artistic Director, is one of the most iconic. It was there that she created the Ghost sofa collection. As the name suggests, they are designed to blend into a room, whilst still retaining Paola Navone’s unconventional touch through the use of eye-catching topstitching.
There is also the Brass collection of pendant lights, made entirely from high-quality brass for a sleek yet imperfect finish, showcasing the designer’s offbeat side.
For her Fish & Fish collection with interior design giant Serax, Navone has created tableware with a pop art feel, featuring colours and shapes with a vintage look and incorporating her signature fish motif. She has expanded her collection to include furniture, chairs and tables that display perfect cohesion. Fish & Fish evokes the spirit of the aperitivo, capturing the warm atmosphere of social gatherings centred around canapés.
