Lex Pott

Born in 1985, Lex Pott is one of the most eclectic young designers working today. After graduating with distinction from the Eindhoven Design Academy in 2009, Pott set up a studio in Rotterdam to work on his designs.

The artist is renowned for using raw materials such as wood, stone and metal, and for working with them by reducing them to their essence, without concealing his designs beneath layers he describes as ‘indirect’. His pure and intuitive approach makes Pott a proponent of Dutch minimalism, with a sleek and defined aesthetic.

His work spans a wide range of creations. He is equally at home in the fine arts as he is in functional design, including furniture, decorative objects, textiles and interior spaces. He works both independently for his own eponymous brand and in collaboration with other established brands. His aim is to restore elegance to everyday products, whilst using high-quality natural materials.

One of Lex Pott’s flagship products is the ‘twist candle’, or twisted candle. By utilising the flexibility of hot wax, Lex bends his candles, which are normally straight in shape. He creates new shapes, each as playful as the next. Whilst traditional candles require a base, the artist has found a way to do away with it, making the candle freestanding by using a double-ended design. He also adds a range of colours.

For his collaboration with the Danish brand HAY, Lex Pott focused on the concept of candles to create the Pillar Candles collection. These graphic candles, now iconic, add a touch of flair to living rooms of all styles with their striking colour combinations, creating an offbeat look.
