Léonard Kadid
Léonard Kadid is an architect and product designer based in Paris.
Born in France, Léonard Kadid is an internationally renowned architect and product designer. He trained at the famous EPFL in Switzerland (the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne) and then at the School of Architecture of the City and Territories in Paris. These two leading institutions helped to nurture the artist’s existing talent. Léonard Kadid went on to work with international studios and brands such as Herzog & de Meuron and Caesar Zumthor in Basel, Switzerland, as well as Dominique Perrault and Cigüe in Paris. Following his studies and these collaborations, he opened his own studio in the 11th arrondissement of Paris.
He places great importance on structural and material experimentation in order to explore the intrinsic qualities of materials, and this is one of the guiding principles of his studio’s work. His many collaborations with artists from all over the world have also given him a taste for travel, which would go on to become his primary source of inspiration. One example is his famous Möja lamp (Leibal, 2017), which takes its name from an island in the Stockholm archipelago. It highlights the sculptural qualities of its materials: concrete and fibreglass.
One of his most significant collaborations is with the Lebanese design brand and manufacturer Kann Design. Known for its expertise, perfected by its experienced craftspeople, the brand placed its complete trust in Léonard Kadid for its Tal collection, part of which is available at The Cool Republic. The Tal chair and its pared-back design adapt to any room, whatever its style. The contemporary touch of its geometric design lends it a subtle presence, while giving the piece a strong character. Made from wood and aluminium, it has been reinforced for everyday use and built to last.
