This contemporary take on adjustable lighting is remarkably pared-back and slender – and requires no joints whatsoever.

The lamp's defining feature is a slim, flexible fibreglass rod to which a fine cable with two continuously adjustable rings is attached. Thanks to its inherent tension, the rod always returns to its original position.

Using the cable and the rings, the rod is bent into an arc – a feature familiar from the reissued Midgard TYP 113 of the 1920s, already a favourite at the Bauhaus. This mechanism makes it possible to bend the rod into the desired position and direct the cone of light exactly where it is needed. The swivelling lampshade allows for further fine adjustments.

At the temporary gallery, the origins of directional light were set alongside a modern interpretation designed by Stefan Diez for Midgard. In the gallery's white space, Diez Office staged various versions of the original design. With Midgard's first modern lamp since the 1960s, Diez Office builds a bridge between history and the present day.
