Designer
Stefan Diez
Breaking with nearly 70 years of design tradition at Midgard was clearly a challenge. And we were delighted to take it on, given that it called for a radical solution.
Stefan Diez was born in 1971; he began his career designing furniture and worked for three years as a cabinetmaker. Diez then went on to study at the Staatliche Akademie der Künste in Stuttgart, from which he graduated in 1996.
He set up his own studio in Munich in 2003 and has since worked in various creative fields, ranging from furniture and tableware to industrial design, as well as exhibition design for companies such as Authentics, Bree, e15, Established and Sons, Moroso, Rosenthal, Thonet and Wilkhahn… Some of his products have won prestigious international design awards, such as the ‘Designpreis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland’, the ‘Prix d’Or’ and the ‘Red Dot Best of the Best’ award.
Since 2007, he has been a professor of industrial design at the HFG in Karlsruhe.
