Based in the town of Plaidt in Germany, Ames was founded in 2006 by Ana María Calderón Kayser. Originally from Colombia, Ana moved to Germany in 2001. Driven by her dual culture, the founder's goal Ames is to create decorative objects, garden furniture and accessories that will appeal to cosmopolitan minds. The young designer will later team up with Sebastian Herkner, a young and talented German designer, who will follow her on a long trip to Colombia to get inspired and discover the best that this beautiful country has to offer. Plus Later, Icelandic designers Erla Sólveig Óskarsdóttir and Reinhard Dienes will join the team. Thus, the brand, which is both ethnic and contemporary, offers a multicultural aesthetic that emphasizes craftsmanship.

All together, they will work in a family atmosphere, merging opposing cultures: that of Colombia and Iceland. The brand's collection of pure geometric shapes, combined with organic lines, reflects the solar spirit of South America with Scandinavian rigour, all mixed with the German functional approach. The brand makes a point of honour of sustainable and natural materials such as wood, marble, steel and rattan.
