Soft Edge

The Soft Edge series by Iskos-Berlin features an organically shaped design, combining bold curves with extreme lightness to create a minimalist piece that maximises human-centred comfort.

Iskos-Berlin is the design partnership of Aleksej Iskos and Boris Berlin, founded in 2010 and based in Copenhagen. Together, they work across industrial design, furniture and graphic design. The pair had already worked together at Komplot Design, of which Berlin was a founding member in 1987, with Iskos joining the practice in 1999. Berlin (born 1958) hails from Saint Petersburg, Russia, and graduated from the city's Institute of Applied Arts. Iskos (born 1965) comes from Kharkiv, Ukraine, and studied architecture, engineering and industrial design in Ukraine and Denmark. Their approach is to "see design as the art of telling a story", and they pay close attention to the materiality of objects, often letting it define the language of their creations. Their exploratory nature frequently results in products that make use of new technologies and materials. For HAY, Iskos-Berlin created the Soft Edge series of chairs and stools, a design conceived in the knowledge that there is no ultimate sitting posture, but rather that our natural state is one of constant, dynamic movement.
