La Mère, Marie Michielssen's first line of ceramic tableware, is a loving ode to the figure of the (grand)mother and to women in general. The tableware has a slightly nostalgic feel yet is, in many ways, innovative thanks to its vertical structure. Every shape is unique and hand-moulded. All the pieces are finished with an off-white glaze or a warm, almost black dark brown. As a third, contrasting colour, Marie chose a bold Venetian red. The designer deliberately chose these colours to create a blend of white and dark brown, or of red and dark brown.

This large stoneware plate breathes craftsmanship. The shaping process has created imperfections that add a sense of uniqueness and authenticity. The foot and the Venetian red glazed finish add a beautiful final touch.
