Coffee table in natural oak 60cm Atlas - New Works

Named after the mythical Titan condemned to bear the world upon his shoulders, the Atlas tables stand solidly in place and rise to support a generous top. The form and the contrast are striking, and the base is central to the design, so that the table top appears to hover above it, while the uprights on either side stand out for their shape and their raw strength. Atlas grew out of John Astbury's study of architectural history.

It is a nod to porticoes and lintels, yet Atlas is built on the fundamental archetype of post-and-lintel construction, valued for its posts and its crowning beams. That said, with its distinctive geometry, its circles and its facets, it is the ultimate archetype, and it pushes back the boundaries of composition and character.
