Floor lamp in nylon and cream aluminium 45 cm Model 597 - Gubi

First launched in 1961, the model 597 lamp by Italian virtuoso Gianfranco Frattini is the lamp that launched his career as a lighting designer. Its unique, playful form perfectly sums up Frattini's extraordinary approach to the aesthetics of light.

The distinctive nylon fringing of the model 597 was inspired both by the world of fashion and by the fringed doorway curtains commonly found in Italian bars and grocery shops in the late 1950s. Thanks to the range of side-mounted bulbs, the table lamps emit a 360º play of indirect light, softened by the fringing to create a rich ambient glow, while the reflective aluminium cover adds warmth to the upward lighting.

The model 597 is light in its expression, yet serious about functionality – bringing sophistication, fun and character to interiors without resorting to superfluous decorative flourishes.
