For Marie Michielssen, designing a piece of furniture always begins with a series of sketches on paper. She constructs volumes with mathematical precision. The proportions must be perfect and suited to the human body. For the Valerie low chair, she started from an elliptical base to which she added two rectangular planes, with the seat and the backrest forming a perfect angle for comfortable seating. She chose lacquered steel so that Valerie can be used both outdoors and indoors.
