Buying guide:What height of bar stool for a worktop or an island?

Frequently asked questions

What stool height should I choose for my bar or kitchen counter?

The right height depends on your worktop. For a standard bar between 90 and 110 cm, opt for stools measuring 65 to 75 cm. Make sure the gap between the seat and the counter is around 25 to 30 cm for optimum comfort. High-end designer stools often come in adjustable versions to suit different counter heights. Don't forget to measure your set-up precisely before making your selection.

Should I choose leather, wood or metal for a designer bar stool?

High-end leather offers elegance and durability, perfect for a luxurious feel. Natural wood brings warmth and suits Scandinavian or minimalist styles. Metal, often chromed or powder-coated, guarantees sturdiness and a modern look. For professional use, opt for hard-wearing leather or faux leather. Each material requires specific care, so bear this in mind depending on how you intend to use it.

How do I care for and clean a designer bar stool in leather or fabric?

For leather, regular dusting followed by a wipe with a damp cloth is enough. Use a specialist leather cleaning product once or twice a year. Fabric can be cleaned with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid soapy water on delicate finishes. For metal legs, a soft cloth helps prevent oxidation. Regular care preserves the designer look and extends the life of your stool.

Can you mix different stool styles around the same bar?

Yes, as long as you maintain visual consistency. Combine stools that share a common colour palette or the same main material. A designer stool in black leather can sit happily alongside other neutral shades. Vary the shapes or legs to add depth, but keep an overall sense of harmony. The key is for the whole arrangement to stay balanced and never look random or mismatched.

Which designer bar stool styles suit minimalist or Scandinavian interiors?

For these styles, opt for clean shapes and natural materials. Light or dark wood with tapered legs is typically Scandinavian. Simple lines, with no superfluous ornamentation, reflect minimalism. Choose monochrome seats in leather, raw fabric or wood. Backless stools remain more discreet. Details such as stainless steel or matt finishes complete these pared-back, functional interiors.
