Square glass coffee table 95x95x42cm CH106 - Carl Hansen & Søn

The square CH106 coffee table by Hans J. Wegner is part of the CH100 furniture series from 1970, alongside another coffee table, a chaise longue and three sofas, all featuring a similar base.
The sturdy square glass top rests on a frame made up of two trestles in folded flat steel, joined by two steel cross rails. The rails also support the top, whose polished glass leaves the frame structure entirely visible. With the gentle curves of the frame and the rounded corners of the glass, the design is soft and harmonious despite the robustness of the materials.
The CH106 coffee table is a fine example of Hans J. Wegner's view of good design, which seeks to strike a balance between the simple and the distinctive. The table also shows that Wegner had no hesitation in embarking on creations based on materials other than wood.
