Hans J. Wegner's square CH106 coffee table is part of the CH100 furniture series from 1970, along with another coffee table, a chaise longue and three sofas, all with a similar base.
The sturdy, square glass top rests on a frame consisting of two bent flat steel trestles, linked by two steel cross rails. The rails also support the top, whose polished glass makes the frame structure fully visible. With the gentle curves of the frame and the rounded corners of the glass, design is soft and harmonious despite the solidity of the materials.
The CH106 coffee table is a fine example of Hans J. Wegner's view of good design, which aims to strike a balance between the simple and the characteristic. The table also shows Wegner's willingness to experiment with materials other than wood.
