Side table in sepia travertine stone 30x80x40cm Pietra - Gubi

Continuing GamFratesi's material exploration of travertine that began with the Epic and Doric tables, the Pietra side tables celebrate the fascinating patterns found within the surface of the stone. Available in two sizes and two colours, the tables are deceptively lightweight, each one built by hand from six pieces yet resembling solid blocks. A raised lip around the gently curved edge of the tabletop creates a useful tray-like surface, ideal for displaying objects or safely setting down a glass. Carefully cut, fitted and finished, the curved edges and corners illustrate the extraordinary level of craftsmanship behind the table.

The latest creation to emerge from GamFratesi's exploration of travertine stone, Pietra is a pair of side tables that balance monumental presence with delicacy and softness.

Named after the Italian word for stone in honour of the material and its origin, Pietra is a celebration of the fascinating patterns found on the surface of travertine, a work of art created over millions of years by the actions of the Earth itself. Every piece of travertine has a unique pattern of colour and veining, so no two tables are ever the same.

The table is formed from six pieces of stone fixed together by hand, giving the impression of a single mono-material block, while remaining surprisingly light and easy to move.

The imposing solidity of Pietra's cuboid form is offset by the soft contours of its edges and corners, which are polished by hand to achieve a gentle curve, giving the table a distinctly sculptural look.

The table's upper rim becomes a practical tray, ideal for displaying objects or safely setting down cups and glasses. Pietra is therefore perfectly suited to serving as a bedside table, as a practical companion to a lounge chair in a living room or, in the case of the larger of the two variants, beside a sofa or at the foot of a bed.

Both the small and large versions are made entirely from travertine. The Pietra side tables are available in Neutral White, characterised by white and grey veining, and in Lively Sepia, which features a rich mix of shades including browns, beiges and greys.
