The grand-père rattan armchair, shown here in its low-back version, is THE iconic model of French rattan craftsmanship. Extremely popular in the French countryside in the early 1900s, it was sold at the time by pedlars who went from village to village. Light, sturdy and inexpensive, it was sometimes the only comfortable piece of furniture in modest homes: for knitting, smoking, listening to the wireless, reading by the fire or chatting under the apple tree… Comfortable, simple and robust, it remains thoroughly contemporary. It makes an ideal occasional armchair, while its seat height also means it can be used around a dining table.
