Armchair and chaise longue Duo Seat / Red / Pink - valerie_objects

Valerie_objects offers a carefully curated selection from the most talented designers of the moment. Working with this new label, Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen are continuing their exploration of form and the pieces that come out of it. Both trained as artists, one a sculptor, the other a photographer, their partnership came about naturally, with their designs sitting at the meeting point of their respective fields and their shared passion for design. Open-mindedness and endless possibilities: with Muller Van Severen, the armchair extends into a light, the chaise longue sits alongside the armchair in a unique pairing, and furniture becomes a living space, a space to be lived in when it brings together storage that is both table and armchair. Their work goes beyond the object: what they set up is a way of living, a way of occupying space and taking possession of it. Their furniture invites us to inhabit our homes differently, more aware of what surrounds us. An obvious nod to Sigmund Freud and a bold take on the psychoanalysis session with a design twist, this piece could have picked up on the premise of the conversation seat, the double armchair so beloved of the 19th century, but in the end it opts instead for the spatial proposition of the father of psychoanalysis. With its strong personality, this piece is a way of thinking, a way of living. Choosing it is something of a manifesto: a statement of support for, and attachment to, design of great rigour and outstanding quality.
