One of the great industrial designers and metalworkers of the 20th century, Tynell came into the world at precisely the right time to become one of the pioneers of modern lighting; As electric light spread around the world, so did Tynell's visions for design. The 9209 has a distinctively shaped shade in spun brass that earned it the nickname "Kypärä" - the Finnish word for "helmet".
Held in place by a curved brass arm, the individually molded shade is decorated with triangular perforation patterns - a signature decorative Tynell - which require a specialized punching tool and the plus high precision to achieve à la hand. As well as guiding light downwards through holes drilled in the surface, the shade also lets points of light through, creating a soft, textured glow and a star-like radiance.
