Natural rattan cabinet 40 x 50 x 20 Saigon - KOK

The Saigon series of KOK , composed of armchairs, sofas, bar stools, is articulated around two requirements: one formal, and the other narrative.

The formal requirement recalls the identity of KOK. It is a question of using certain materials such as pine and rattan, as well as certain techniques of assembling materials such as wood braiding, in order to evoke a situation that is historically and geographically situated: the meeting of oriental weaving know-how and western industrial furniture, with its simple forms.

The second requirement is narrative and responds to à la first: this furniture, far from plunging us into the nostalgia of a colonial past, opens us on the contrary to a surpassing of the oppositions between syl and territories, and initiates, via the motif of the interweaving, a passage from the meeting to the dialogue, from opposition to association.

Here it is through this cupboard with its delicate closures that this multicultural dialogue takes place: in this grand container separated from a pine plaque, in the delicate back and forth of the rattan doors and the small magnets that slow down the closing, in these two notches that ensure ease of transport and hanging.
