MR01 Initial oiled iroko outdoor lounge chair - Gubi

With its low wooden frame and nautical rope seat and backrest, Mathias Steen Rasmussen's MR01 Initial outdoor lounger has been waiting to be taken outdoors ever since it was created. While the frame of the indoor edition is made of oak or walnut, the MR01 Initial outdoor lounger is made of -certified iroko. This wood proved to be a perfect match for Rasmussen's design, retaining its strong silhouette in the transition to the outdoors, and helping to emphasise the sculptural quality of the MR01 Initial chair.

As with the indoor edition, the structure of the MR01 Initial outdoor chair is built without screws. A talented woodworker, Rasmussen developed the design using techniques from the craft discipline of cabinetmaking, with mortise and tenon joints that attach the five crossbars to the side pieces in an open triangle. The result is a geometric, materially honest and structurally transparent form that demonstrates the craftsmanship of its manufacture from every angle and creates an enchanting play of light and shadow when exposed to the sun.

To withstand life outdoors, the MR01 Initial outdoor lounger is equipped with a custom-made, high-performance polyester rope. This material is waterproof, making it perfect for the poolside; it is UV resistant, meaning it will not fade after long days in the sun and will not degrade. An anti-strain core prevents the rope from stretching over time.
