While the frame of the indoor edition comes in oak or walnut, the MR01 Initial outdoor lounge chair is made from certified iroko. This wood proved perfectly suited to Rasmussen's design, retaining its strong silhouette in the move outdoors and helping to highlight the sculptural quality of the MR01 Initial chair.

As with the indoor edition, the frame of the MR01 Initial outdoor chair is built without screws. A talented woodworker, Rasmussen developed the design using techniques drawn from the craft discipline of cabinetmaking, with mortise-and-tenon joints securing the five crossbars to the open triangular side pieces. The result is a geometric form, materially honest and structurally transparent, which showcases the craftsmanship of its making from every angle and creates an enchanting play of light and shadow when it stands in the sun.

To withstand life outdoors, the MR01 Initial outdoor lounge chair features a bespoke high-performance polyester rope. This material is waterproof, making it perfect for the poolside; it is UV-resistant, which means it will not fade after long days in the sun, nor will it deteriorate. An anti-deformation core prevents the rope from stretching over time.
