The J104 Chair was designed in the 1960s by Jørgen Bækmark (1929 – 2021). The J104 chair belongs to the collection of pieces reissued by Hay and originally designed for FDB, the Danish consumer cooperative founded in the 1940s under the guidance of Borge Morgensen. Making the most of new mass-production techniques, FDB manufactured a wealth of affordably priced designer furniture for the Danish public. For all lovers of vintage Scandinavian design, the Hay brand is reissuing these icons created by great Danish designers from the 1940s to the 1960s.
A wonderfully inspired blend of retro lines and contemporary purity… The J104 chair is a reinterpretation of a great classic: the Windsor chair, hugely fashionable in the 18th century. Jørgen Bækmark respects the main characteristics of the traditional Windsor chair: the use of wood and a backrest formed of slender spindles. He gives this great classic the clean, modern lines of Scandinavian inspiration. The assembly of spindles forms an openwork structure, balanced and incredibly airy. We love the graphic effect of this delightfully decorative little chair.
