The name "Limit" echoes the circumstances in which the armchair was created — an era marked by material shortages and structural clarity — and reflects an approach founded on thoughtful reduction rather than excess. Its ingenuity earned it a place in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Decades later, its relevance remains undiminished. Created at the height of the oil crisis — a period when efficiency and the considered use of materials were paramount — the Limit armchair was designed to minimise waste while favouring maximum logic. Working within a framework of strict constraints, Bendtsen turned limitations into opportunities, letting necessity dictate both structure and aesthetics. Two steel rails, between which a padded fabric seat is suspended, define both the structure and the comfort. Nothing superfluous. Nothing excessive. The padded textile cover, which provides the support, does away with the need for foam or other unnecessary components; it is also easy to replace, extending the armchair's lifespan and underlining the ingenuity of its design.
