The Pap bookcase is a modular shelving system designed by industrial designer Tetsu Schokking, whose approach is rooted in material research and functional clarity. It is made from panels produced from used beverage cartons — such as milk cartons and other packaging that would otherwise be incinerated. These cartons are coarsely shredded, allowing fragments of the original packaging to remain visible, while the plastic layers melt to act as natural binders. No chemicals are used in the process. The result is a warm, expressive material that is pleasant to the touch, where every panel is unique: each one displays subtle variations in colour and pattern while retaining a serene, balanced overall aesthetic. This modular, adaptable system comes in tall and low versions, which can be combined and extended as your needs evolve. The height of the shelves is freely adjustable, offering great flexibility of use in a variety of settings, without imposing any predefined function. Delivered flat-packed and intuitive to assemble, the Pap bookcase relies on simplicity — both in its manufacture and in its use — to ensure its longevity.
