Frequently asked questions

What is PSTR Studio?
PSTR Studio is a Dutch brand based in Amsterdam, specialising in publishing limited-edition posters and art prints. Younger than The Poster Club, it has positioned itself in a slightly more upmarket segment, with exclusive collaborations with contemporary European artists. The PSTR Studio ethos can be summed up in a few words: accessible art, museum quality, minimalist aesthetics. The brand works with around fifty carefully selected artists: abstract painters, architectural photographers and graphic illustrators. Each print is produced in Europe (mainly in the Netherlands and Germany) on thick matte paper (250-300 gsm) using museum-quality pigment inks (light resistance of 200 years+). PSTR Studio publishes both open series (made to order) and numbered, signed limited editions. The brand pays substantial royalties to its artists (15-25% of the sale price), making it an ethical model for contemporary artistic creation. The Cool Republic offers the PSTR Studio catalogue.
What styles of artwork does PSTR Studio offer?
The PSTR Studio catalogue spans several styles with a strong editorial coherence. Minimalist abstraction is very well represented: compositions in soft colour fields, clean lines and pared-back geometric shapes. Artists such as Hein Studio, Yopie Wevers and Léa Maupetit produce works typical of this style. Architectural photography (often in black and white or sepia tones) is another speciality, with images of modernist buildings or minimalist urban landscapes. Colourful graphic illustration (abstract geometric patterns, compositions inspired by the Bauhaus or the 1970s) adds a lively touch. Limited numbered editions reproducing contemporary art (oils or watercolours by emerging artists) are the most expensive pieces in the catalogue. All the works are available in several standard sizes: 30x40, 50x70 and 70x100 cm. You can order matching frames directly from PSTR Studio or choose something to suit your own style (light oak, matte black, aged brass).
How much does a PSTR Studio artwork cost?
Prices depend on the size and on whether it is a standard or limited edition. For standard editions in A3 size (30x40 cm), expect to pay 35-65 euros. In 50x70 cm, expect 70-120 euros. In 70x100 cm, expect 130-200 euros. Numbered, signed limited editions can reach 200-800 euros depending on the artist and the format. That is more expensive than The Poster Club (whose standard editions are 25-100 euros), but the upmarket positioning is justified: museum-quality printing, 300 gsm paper (vs 200-250 gsm for competitors), generous royalties for the artists and a sharper editorial selection. To get started with PSTR Studio without breaking the bank: choose 2-3 posters in 50x70 cm in your favourite style, allowing 220-400 euros for 3 well-finished works. Framing is separate (50-150 euros per frame depending on the size). All in all, for a design art wall with 3-5 framed works, budget 600-1,200 euros. It is a decorating investment that radically transforms an interior and one that may even gain value on the art market if the artist takes off.
