After graduating from the École du Louvre, Mathieu Challières first put his creative talents to use in advertising before turning his hand to designing and crafting objects in his small Parisian workshop, just a stone’s throw from Boulevard de Belleville.

A plaster-moulded chandelier made to decorate his hallway was the catalyst for his career as a designer, prompting him to exhibit his ‘home-made in France’ creations (side tables, bookcases, light fittings) at a stand at the unmissable Maison & Objets trade fair in 2006. His colourful pieces, with their poetic charm and original design, earned him a place in the ‘trend zones’ curated by the Nelli Rody agency. His rise to fame was meteoric, and Mathieu Challières’ creations are now sold in over thirty countries around the world!

The Volière collection has made Mathieu Challières’ designs famous: a series of light fittings that reimagines the birdcage in a poetic and dreamlike way, featuring artificial birds with real feathers set within a copper mesh structure.

The Mathieu Challières range of lamps includes numerous models, from the Volière wall light to the Grande Volière and Demi-Grande Volière pendant lights, as well as the Tambour lamp, the mini version and the Petite Volière pendant light by Mathieu Challières. But the brand’s must-have piece is undoubtedly the ‘Grande Volière’ pendant, comprising a large copper-mesh shade in which colourful birds have taken refuge around a bulb, creating a truly delightful sight.
