The Pap bookcase is a modular shelving system designed by industrial designer Tetsu Schokking, whose design is based on material research and functional clarity. It is made from panels derived from used beverage cartons — such as milk cartons and other packaging that would otherwise be incinerated. These cartons are coarsely shredded, leaving fragments of the original packaging visible, while the plastic layers melt to serve as natural binders. No chemicals are used in the process. The result is a warm, expressive and pleasant-to-touch material, where each panel is unique: each exhibits subtle variations in colour and pattern while maintaining an overall serene and balanced aesthetic. This modular and adaptable system comes in high and low versions, which can be combined and extended according to evolving needs. The height of the shelves is adjustable at will, offering great flexibility of use in various contexts, without imposing a predefined function.
