The Pap bookshelf is a modular shelving system designed by industrial designer Tetsu Schokking, whose concept is based on material research and functional clarity. It is made from panels derived from used food cartons — such as milk cartons and other packaging that would otherwise be incinerated. These cartons are roughly shredded, revealing fragments of the original packaging, while the plastic layers melt to serve as natural binders. No chemicals are used during the process. The result is a warm, expressive material that is pleasant to the touch, with each panel being unique: each displays subtle variations in colour and pattern while maintaining an overall serene and balanced aesthetic. This modular and adaptable system comes in high and low versions, which can be combined and extended as needs evolve. The height of the shelves is adjustable at will, offering great flexibility of use in various contexts, without imposing any predefined function.
