Walnut dining tables

Walnut tables hold a special place in dining room furniture: this dense wood with its expressive grain brings immediate warmth and a visual presence few materials can match. The Cool Republic brings together a selection of 56 designs created for discerning interiors, from compact formats to generous dimensions for large gatherings, including the dining table with a solid top that lastingly anchors a living space. With tones ranging from golden brown to deep chocolate, walnut suits contemporary architecture just as well as more classic proportions.

Walnut has long been the material of choice for cabinetmakers and design furniture brands alike, prized for its robustness and the richness of its grain. Among the brands featured in our HAY Tables collection, several designs work this wood into pared-back shapes with clean lines, while the Normann Copenhagen Tables favour geometric structures that showcase the raw material. Formats vary widely: round tops that encourage conviviality, rectangular ones for larger gatherings, and a few extendable tables that let you adapt the surface to the occasion. Bases in lacquered metal, matching solid wood or brushed brass offer any number of combinations to fine-tune the character of the piece.

A walnut table sits naturally in a dining room or an open-plan living space, but it also works beautifully in a study or library as an elegant work surface. Pair it with chairs upholstered in neutral fabric, brass or blown-glass lighting, and materials such as linen or ceramic to create a cohesive whole. To explore other complementary colours and formats, the Kartell Tables offer alternatives in synthetic materials that sit well alongside light or dark wood, depending on the mood you're after.
