Pols Potten — Dutch design | The Cool Republic

Dutch design that invites you to play

Founded in Amsterdam in 1986, Pols Potten has developed a free-spirited and bold creative world, where design becomes a playground for expression and experimentation. Inspired by cultures from around the world, the brand designs furniture, lighting and decorative objects that bring energy, humour and personality to contemporary interiors. Combining craftsmanship, creative intuition and unexpected compositions, Pols Potten champions an approach to design that is lively, expressive and profoundly human.

Ever since its inception, Pols Potten has fostered an open-minded approach to design and interior decoration. Drawing inspiration from travel, artisanal craftsmanship and cultural influences from around the world, the brand creates collections that celebrate creativity in all its forms.

Play is central to Pols Potten’s identity. The pieces are designed to surprise, evoke emotion and transform spaces with spontaneity. Sculptural forms, unexpected combinations of materials, expressive colours and quirky details come together to create a world where design is never limited to mere functionality.

This creative freedom goes hand in hand with a deep respect for craftsmanship and traditional techniques. Many pieces are made by hand, giving each creation a unique and authentic character. The collections thus blend expertise, intuition and experimentation in a constant quest to strike a balance between aesthetics and emotion.

Pols Potten designs objects that bring interiors to life and foster a more personal relationship with space. Each creation becomes an invitation to craft a living, expressive and evolving setting, where traditional design rules can be reimagined.

Through this playful and contemporary approach, the brand also champions a more responsible approach to design, with a focus on environmental impact, the promotion of traditional craftsmanship and the sustainability of its products.

Today, Pols Potten embodies a vision of Dutch design that is at once eclectic, cheerful and deeply creative, where every piece brings character, surprise and freedom to everyday spaces.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Pols Potten?

Pols Potten is a Dutch brand founded in 1985 in Amsterdam by Henk Teunissen. It is one of the longest-established contemporary Dutch décor brands, and has become a benchmark for its sculptural pieces and exuberant creations. The Pols Potten spirit sits halfway between contemporary design and applied art: every piece tells a story, playing with volume, colour and material in an often daring way. The catalogue mainly covers statement décor: XXL vases, table sculptures, designer occasional furniture. The brand collaborates with emerging designers (often recent graduates of the Design Academy Eindhoven, one of the most respected design schools in Europe). Production takes place largely in Europe and Asia, with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship. Pols Potten is now present in more than 60 countries and is one of the go-to brands featured by international interiors magazines for statement pieces. The Cool Republic distributes Pols Potten in France with an extensive catalogue.

What are Pols Potten's best-known pieces?

Several Pols Potten pieces have become iconic. The Boon vase collection (anthropomorphic shapes in colourful ceramic) is arguably the best known. The XXL vases (Goblin, Glacier, Honey) in tinted blown glass bring instant sculptural presence. The mosaic ceramic bowls and dishes, produced in limited editions with unique patterns, are in high demand. The furniture collection (Cookie ceramic stools, sculptural side tables, colourful modular bookcases) offers real statement pieces. Candlesticks and candle holders in metal, marble or sculptural ceramic round off table compositions. For wall décor, hanging sculptures and original mirrors are also part of the catalogue. Pols Potten's strength: an immediately recognisable character, with pieces that radically transform an interior. Ideal for anyone looking for statement furniture rather than purely functional objects.

How do I bring Pols Potten into my interior?

Pols Potten works particularly well as an accent within a pared-back base interior. The golden rule: limit yourself to a maximum of 2-3 Pols Potten pieces in any one room, and choose a Scandinavian or minimalist backdrop for the setting. Here are a few examples of successful combinations. A Scandinavian living room (HAY sofa, Ferm Living coffee table) complemented by 2-3 XXL Pols Potten vases arranged together on the coffee table. A dining room with an Ethnicraft oak table and HAY About a Chair chairs, a &Tradition Flowerpot pendant light and a large sculptural Pols Potten vase in the centre of the table. A minimalist entrance hall with a wooden bench and 2-3 XXL Pols Potten vases placed on the floor like sculptures. The brand works less well in interiors that are already busy (where it adds visual noise) or in very soft, neutral schemes (where it can feel out of place). To get it right: choose 1-2 Pols Potten pieces with real character, and give them visual space to breathe. One well-showcased XXL Boon vase beats five small Pols Potten vases lined up in a row.
