Margaux Keller
Design is, above all, a practice, a way of achieving something.
Margaux Keller brings her own Mediterranean touch to modern designs. Originally from Marseille, Margaux Keller is a product and furniture designer, as well as an interior designer. Margaux Keller studied for five years at the ENSAAMA Olivier de Serres school and then at the École Boulle, where in 2010 she was awarded a degree in design and interior architecture with honours for her project ‘Design (sans) vergogne’. She then joined Philippe Starck’s studio before returning to her home town in 2012 to found her own design label, Margaux Keller Collections.
For Margaux Keller, design and architecture no longer fit within the binary codes of the past – ‘functionality and aesthetics’. She champions the sensitivity and emotion of objects and spaces. She explores the need for design to evoke emotion: to bring a smile to people’s faces and to tap into collective memory, much like Proust’s madeleine. Margaux Keller’s three guiding principles are elegance, quirkiness and poetry.
The designer’s partnerships are wide-ranging and varied; over the last ten years, she has worked with brands such as Yves Saint Laurent, Bibelo, Roche Bobois, Cartier, La Redoute Intérieurs, Habitat, SIA Home Fashion and La Monnaie de Paris.
After meeting Anaïs Fretigny, another staunch supporter of Marseille, Margaux Keller decided to launch her own brand, Margaux Keller Collections. She showcases her materials in the same way that local craftspeople would, through collections inspired by the culture of the Midi, such as ‘Vue mer’, ‘Mistral Noir’ and ‘Pin Parasols’.
The designer is collaborating with the French furniture brand HARTÔ on her ‘Eustache’ bench collection. The occasional bench, with its elegant velvet seat, also features a brass basket, which adds structure to the design as well as providing storage. Eustache is a fusion of traditional and modern design, featuring vintage colours.
