Designer
Gunnar Biilmann-Petersen
Architect, 1897–1968
He trained at the School of Decorative Arts at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and subsequently worked as an architect. However, it was in the field of graphic design that he made his most significant contribution to the art world.
His work is eclectic, ranging from graphics, posters, banknotes and corporate logos to the design of Jens Olsen’s world clock at Copenhagen City Hall. Alongside his work in his design studio, Biilmann Petersen was involved in teaching and research, and in 1951 he was appointed the first professor of design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
Biilmann Petersen’s body of work also includes numerous design proposals for LE KLINT table lamps, some of which are still part of the product range.
